Different, Just Like Me is a nonprofit organization focused on the creation of peer-mentoring groups for transracially adopted children. Groups will have a lead mentor, who will have the same, or similar, family situation as the children they are mentoring. Different, Just Like Me seeks to help transracially adopted children navigate the unique family situations they have, while also giving children a space to meet peers with same, or similar, family structures. Different, Just Like Me seeks to partner with schools, community organizations, and community leaders to address racism, the stigma around adoption, bullying, and other issues transracially adopted kids face. The goal is for children to have a peer network, a mentor they can rely on, and opportunities for transracially adopted children to overcome barriers and eventually claim their own identity.
