About Digital Ethnography Research Centre

The RMIT Digital Ethnography Research Centre (DERC) conducts human-centred research on data and digital transformations. We work with communities, governmental, nonprofit and corporate partners to provide research on the lived experience of digital technologies, cultures and practices. Our researchers explore how users feel, create, respond, and engage with digital technologies, platforms, economies and regulation, and how users and communities adapt to ongoing developments in digital practices. We conduct research on lived experience, digital harms and online abuse, creative youth practices, users from CALD and minority backgrounds, tech policies and design, digital literacy and a range of other human-centred design propositions. Hosted by RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, DERC offers world class research expertise for both small and largescale research initiatives. We are the first and largest research centre in Australia focused on digital ethnography. The DERC co-directors are: Professor Rob Cover
