Started by Software Freedom Day (SFD) in 2004 and managed under the Software Freedom International non-profit organization in the USA (registered in 2007), DFF was created in 2013 as we needed to move the non-profit to a new country.
2012 saw the creation of Culture Freedom Day to educate the world about Free Culture and giving an opportunity for people to discover artists and work of arts on that specific day.
In 2013 Hardware Freedom Day was added to our celebration and education days, with over 60 events worldwide and the creation of an active Hong Kong community was required as a specificity of being a charity from this place.
