About Digital Profession
The Digital Profession was established in April 2020 to improve the digital expertise of the APS workforce. It is part of the Australian Government’s Digital Transformation Strategy to increase capability of the APS in critical or functional areas. Recent crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and bushfires have shown the importance of digital in solving problems and delivering services to Australians. As the Digital Profession, we aim to create a ‘digital ready’ APS workforce. This describes not just expertise, but also thinking. This includes engaging in continuous learning and development, collaborating on projects to benefit the public, and contributing to the digital capability of their team or agency. Membership to the Digital Profession is open to APS staff in digital roles. This isn’t confined to ‘traditional’ IT and ICT disciplines, but also those using digital methodologies such as user-centred thinking and design - digital professions cover a range disciplines. By joining the Digital Profession, members get recognition for their skills and experience through our accreditation and badging system. We offer events and training (both in person and on-demand), for ongoing career and skill development. You can learn from peers and experts about new technologies and trends in government. Engage in networking events and explore opportunities available in a government-wide community. Agencies who work with the Digital Profession will gain a better understanding of the digital readiness and capability of their workers. The Digital Profession can help agencies identify their digital strengths, and help address any skill needs with training, mobility opportunities and emerging talent programs. The Profession currently has over 11,000 members across the entire APS and is growing rapidly with the support of agencies, teams, and individuals. Joining the Digital Profession is free and only takes a few minutes. We invite you to be part of the future of digital in APS.
