About Direction Earth/Space

Direction Earth/Space — a new initiative of the European Space Agency organised in partnership with the European Youth Capitals (EYC). Direction Earth/Space gives broad audience the opportunity to experience our planet like never before and look beyond, into space. 🛰️🌍 Discover five original formats that showcase the power of satellite data and space technology. Get ready to take a satellite's view of Earth, discover new opportunities to use the data they collect, and experience the thrill of taking your first steps into space. Embark on the incredible adventure which begins this June in EYC 2023 🇵🇱Lublin and continues onward to the upcoming EYC destinations of 🇧🇪Ghent (2024) and 🇺🇦Lviv (2025). The European Youth Capital (EYC) is a title awarded by the European Youth Forum to one European city each year. The initiative puts youth in the driving seat to imagine and develop ideas and events that showcase their creativity and innovation, helping to foster a more inclusive and diverse society. In 2023 the EYC title was awarded to the City of Lublin in Poland and in the following years the City of Ghent in Belgium (2024), and the City of Lviv in Ukraine (2025) will also be recognised as European Youth Capitals. Over the next three years the European Space Agency will partner with these cities to inspire and engage society through the new visionary initiative called Direction Earth/Space. On the one hand, we take a satellites’ view of our planet to reveal how all of life and the majority of human experience is unified under one whole; planet Earth. On the other hand, our gaze is directed outwards into the vastness of space, where humans dare to venture through cooperation and innovation of technology.
