Department of Media and Communication Studies (DMCS) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (formerly University of Pune) was established in July 1990. Ranked at #7 in the top 10 Mass Communication related courses in India for year 2019, by India Today survey: https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/web-exclusive/story/20190527-top-10-colleges-offering-mass-communication-courses-1527585-2019-05-18 DMCS offers post graduate programmes viz. two-year full time M.Sc. program, and also M.Phil. & Ph.D. in Media and Communication Studies. It is also offering a one-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Indian Film Studies in collaboration with the National Film Archive of India. For M. Sc. Program, DMCS has identified Video Production and Media Research as its strength areas and over the years, the course has also incorporated emerging areas in the fields of mass communication, interpersonal and organisational communication. Savitribai Phule Pune University has been given the highest Five Star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC) for its overall performance. It has also been identified as having 'Potential for Excellence' by University Grants Commission (UGC) - the apex body for higher education in India.
