St. Luke Hospital and College of Nursing and Midwifery are situated in Wolisso Town, the capital of the Southwest Shoa Zone, Oromia Regional State. The Hospital and College are owned by the Ethiopian Catholic Church. In January 2014 the fourth 5-Year Project Agreement was signed by the Oromia Bureau of Finance and Economic Development (BOFED), the Oromia Regional Health Bureau(ORHB), the Ethiopian Catholic Church Social and Development Commission (ECC / SADCO), and Doctors with Africa Cuamm (DWA Cuamm). There are two Government Hospitals near Wolisso, one in Tulu Bolo, at 35 km distance, and one in Ambo (West Shoa Zone) at 65 km from Wolisso. Attat Hospital in the Gurage Zone (Southern People’s Region) is at 60 km from Wolisso. In Wolisso Town there are two Government Health Centers and several private clinics. The Hospital began its services on January 1st, 2001 with 80 beds. There are now 200 beds in use for Medical (38, including TB), Surgical (23), Pediatric (65), Neonatal unit (6), Ophthalmology, Orthopedics (32, including Physiotherapy Unit), Delivery & Maternity (24) and Gynecology (12).The hospital provides Outpatient and Inpatient services, 24Hrs. Emergency Service, Ophthalmology, ENT and Dental units, Psychiatric and Orthopedic clinics, Internal Medicine, Surgical, Pediatrics, Neonatal Unit, Orthopedics, Delivery & Maternity, Gynecology, VCT Antenatal and Under five clinics, (voluntary counseling and testing) and PMTCT / ART (prevention of mother to child transmission/ anti-retroviral treatment) services, Pharmacy, Laboratory, X-ray and Ultra sound services, Physiotherapy unit, Public Health Department with outreach services, a maternity waiting homes for high risk mothers and a therapeutic feeding unit for malnourished children. Other supportive departments like canteen, free Ambulance service, laundry and Internet (Wi-fi). St Luke's provides health care services in a spirit of equality and justice, promoting physical and psychological help without discrimination for religious, ethnic, political, social or economic status. In particular it promotes the defence of life in accordance with the social teaching of the catholic Church and guarantees access to health services to those more in need, the poor and the under privileged, the children and the women during pregnancy. The college of nursing and Midwifery trains Ethiopian citizens to become dedicated and professional health staff to provide quality health service to the community.
