The mission of Dogs Matter is to provide and promote a safe and healthy environment for dogs of recovering addicts and alcoholics.
Alcoholics and addicts seeking in-patient treatment facilities have had limited options regarding the care of their pets. In many cases either they place them in an unhealthy environment or surrender them to a shelter. Dogs Matter offers a different choice. We are the only nonprofit agency to provide temporary foster care placement and supportive services specifically for dogs of addicts and alcoholics in recovery. "We take care of your best friend while you take care of yourself."
Dogs Matter also provides a 12-month Aftercare Program led by a certified peer recovery coach. Our program follows our clients and their dogs after their successful completion of treatment and reunion with their dogs. We provide regular follow-up calls, local check-ins, recovery resources in the community, assistance with vet appointments, medical expenses, rent deposits, and food as necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment while staying clean and sober.
