It is a brilliantly simple concept - Donate Your Desktop is an application the user downloads that updates their computer desktop background each day with attractive branded wallpapers sponsored by an advertiser. We donate 75% of the advertising revenue received to the user's charity. So the user, simply by having Donate Your Desktop installed, is making a small donation to charity each day at no cost to themselves.
We've partnered with twelve great charities - Starship Foundation, Oxfam, WWF, the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, Arthrtis NZ, Diabetes NZ, Auckland City Mission, Coastguard, Duffy Books in Homes, Make-a-Wish, Amnesty International and Foundation for Youth Development (FYD). The feedback from users, advertisers and our charities had been overwhelmingly positive and has included articles on Springwise, TUAW - the unofficial Apple web blog - and numerous local sites and publications.
Our current focus is on building our audience, tweaking the user experience and creating an established advertising channel. We plan to extend the model into the mobile and tablet space, and launch DYD in the United States - hopefully in 2013. We are actively seeking investment, partnership and mentoring opportunities.
