The Caribbean region, facing major public health challenges due to its geographical position, is susceptible to vector-borne diseases (such as Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika) and natural disasters. These islands and countries are also grappling with the rising prevalence of chronic diseases and an aging population, both of which are research priorities.
The DOSCCAR project (Development of Scientific Cooperation and Clinical Research in the Caribbean) aims to enhance regional capacities, improve public health, and foster scientific advancement. DOSCCAR promotes regional partnerships to facilitate exchanges within the Caribbean scientific community.
The primary goal is to provide Caribbean nations with essential information to encourage scientific collaboration in the region. A bibliometric analysis is proposed to showcase the scientific output, its impact, and the network of collaborations among Caribbean countries. This analysis addresses four key questions:
WHO IS COLLABORATING WITH WHOM? Identifying partnerships and collaborations between countries and institutions.
WHAT ARE THE RESEARCH THEMES? Determining the main topics addressed in the research conducted in the region.
WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY? Assessing the influence and reach of the research on the global scientific community.
ARE THESE PUBLICATIONS RELEVANT TO OUR PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES? Examining the relevance of the research in relation to the region's health challenges.
This initiative, under the banner of “REGIONAL COLLABORATION, GLOBAL THINKING,” seeks to more actively integrate the Caribbean region into the global scientific knowledge production, highlighting the unique characteristics and contributions of this area.
