Kathiravelu Nythiananda Devananda, widely recognized as Douglas Devananda, is a prominent Sri Lankan Tamil politician who currently serves as a Cabinet Minister. He is also the leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party. Mr. Devananda has a complex political history, having previously been involved in Sri Lankan Tamil militant activities with the aim of establishing an independent Tamil Eelam. However, he later transitioned to a pro-government paramilitary leadership role and became an active figure in politics. Notably, he has been a vocal critic of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (Tamil Tigers), a rebel group. Devananda has faced numerous assassination attempts by the Tamil Tigers due to his strong opposition to their activities. Furthermore, he is a proclaimed offender in India and is wanted on multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, and kidnapping.
