DOWA - Doing Good Work in Africa

And addressing the deprivation that is still widespread in Africa, will be an important step toward that goal." https://hbr.org/2018/11/afri At Doing Good Work in Africa (DOWA), we believe that the challenges faced on the African continent present opportunities for brilliant college students - through internships, students can learn from Africa-born innovators, who are working on impact-driven projects in various sectors such as Innovation & Technology, Agriculture, Education, Venture Capital, Energy, Architecture, Healthcare and so on. DOWA started its non-profit organization in 2020 during the pandemic. DOWA is a free internship placement program for self-motivated, forward-thinking students who seek internships that provide diverse, experiential learning opportunities in high-impact, innovative sectors in Africa. DOWA was conceived by two Nigerians, built and grown in the United States and as of August 2022, the program has had over 2000 applicants, resulting in 79 interns from 30+ schools accumulating over 300,000 internship minutes working in over 20 start-ups across 11 Africa countries. In addition to students collaborating on creating innovative solutions to development challenges, the DOWA initiative ensures access to development opportunities such ongoing mentorship, cultural immersion, personal and professional development sessions. OBJECTIVES: - To connect talented students to African organizations doing good, scalable and impactful work. - To engage various stakeholders and foster knowledge sharing between Africans and friends of Africa. - To build an ecosystem of future innovators and advocates for the continent.
