While a Career Coach can be a helpful guide on the process, the MOST valuable resources you have as a job seeker are your friends and family - your AMBASSADORS. 🔸The people who you've already built solid relationships with. 🔸The cheeleaders who want to see you land a new role. 🔸The individuals most likely to actively invest in your success. Yet we often fail to have meaningful career conversations with the people who are already our allies, assuming they would help if they could. But most don't know how. Our loved ones don't have a CLEAR idea of what we want, or they don't know what SPECIFIC action would be most useful. Yet, they have access to tons of information, people and ideas, which are going untapped. Never underestimate anyone. As a job seeker, we must be clear about our goals and able to communicate them in laymen's terms. Do the work for your ambassadors to be able to best assist you. As a friend, we need to make space for REAL career conversations (even when our job seeking friends are hesitant), commit to action steps, and follow through. Whether we like it or not, a job search is now a social activity. Technology advances have only reinforced that as it's even harder to get through the noise digitally. A network is the most valuable resource for our careers, and whether in a job search now and seeking help, or you're fortunate to be "between job searches" and in a position to help others, we all benefit from assistance in our professional lives. Whether you're a job seeker, entrepreneur, tenured, or transitioning to retirement, building a network of ambassadors will only open up your opportunities, professional and personally. We all thrive.
