The Data Stewardship Wizard (DSW) brings together data stewards and researchers to perform data management planning for research projects delivering FAIR Data. Best practices for ensuring efficient production of FAIR and open data are encoded by data stewards in a knowledge model, and are brought to the attention of exactly those research projects that can use them when they do their data management planning. During the process, the user is helped to make the most FAIR choices using FAIR metrics. Using DSW for planning data management, researchers can be made aware of relevant international, national and institutional services and standards both in their own field and interdisciplinary. They can discover practices that will save them time and budget, and deliver higher quality and more reusable data.
DSW can help funders encode their policies on FAIR and open data, and also help them to judge the resulting data management plans (DMPs) through metrics. This is supported also because the DMPs are machine actionable.
DSW is an officially recommended tool by the Horizon Europe Programme Guide as well as several European national funding agencies. It is used within the ELIXIR research infrastructure as it is a project that emerged by collaboration between ELIXIR-CZ (CTU in Prague) and ELIXIR-NL (DTL). DSW is also used by users from other parts of the world, e.g., from the U.S., Canada, Australia, and several countries in Africa.
