Dhaka Toastmasters Club is a community-based club that helps people improve their communication and skills. It is part of Toastmasters International, a global organization that has been empowering people to become better speakers and leaders since 1924. Toastmasters International started with one club in California, USA, and now has over 16,600 clubs in 143 countries, serving more than 357,000 members. Dhaka Toastmasters Club was chartered on May 20, 2015, with the support of Chittagong Club, the first community-based club in Bangladesh, and Smedley Club, Sri Lanka, the home club of the 2014 World Champion of Public Speaking, Dananjaya Hettiarachchi. The club sponsors were Muhammad Habibul Islam, CL and Shuvo Hridayesh, CC, and the club mentor was Alicia Curtis, DTM. The club has achieved remarkable success in its journey. It has been recognized as a Distinguished Club in 2015-16, a Select Distinguished Club in 2016-17 and 2017-18, and a President Distinguished Club in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
