Dualities are natural in life, and we experience them daily, such as work time vs. leisure time, socializing in groups vs. being alone, happiness vs. sadness, etc. We can ebb and flow through these dualities seamlessly, and life goes on without us consciously needing to acknowledge and understand how we've worked through these dualities. But sometimes, we become fixated on one side of the duality, such as believing a chronic sadness will never end and we will never be happy again. A primary goal for many of the individuals I therapeutically work with is the processing of distressing circumstances that have resulted in them becoming fixated on a particular perspective or having developed discomforting experiences cognitively, emotionally, and/or physically. By drawing on various evidence-based modalities such as cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, systems, and psychodynamic therapies, I work with individuals to restore balance and more gracefully flow through the inherent dualities in life.
