Uplift is a concealable and user-controlled abdominal compression garment intended to mitigate symptoms of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a form of dysautonomia that causes symptoms such as dizziness upon a change in position. POTS primarily affects women between the ages of 15 and 50.
Originating from Duke's Design Health program, our interdisciplinary team consists of innovators in healthcare, technology, and business. Through market research and a national survey study, we found that existing compression products do not satisfy the day-today needs of people with POTS. Further investigation of consumer trends and preferences inspired our final design for which a utility patent application was filed in April 2024.
Our mission is to develop novel devices that are tailored to better support POTS patients.
