This project aims to push forward the development of green and sustainable hydro-solvometallurgical processes for the recovery of selected noble metals: gold (Au), platinum (Pt) and rhodium (Rh). The first two are selected because of their abundance in large-scale commodities (e.g., in printed circuit boards of waste electric and electronic equipment, WEEE, and spent automotive catalysts, WCat) and their relatively unit prices lower than other PGMs and REEs. Besides, Pt-WCats contain large amounts of Rh (, another critical raw material whose recovery is crucial to sustaining the process profitability.
The green anD sUstainable uRbAn mining of noBLe mEtal project (DURABLE) will develop new selective hydro-solvometallurgical methods for the recovery of Pt, Au and Rh from WEEE and WCat, boosting the sustainability and the circular economy of the noble metal recovery processes in several ways.

Questo progetto mira a promuovere lo sviluppo di processi idro-solvometallurgici green e sostenibili per il recupero di metalli nobili: oro (Au), platino (Pt) e rodio (Rh). I primi due sono stati scelti a causa della loro abbondanza nelle materie prime su larga scala (ad esempio, nei circuiti stampati dei rifiuti di apparecchiature elettriche ed elettroniche, RAEE, e nei catalizzatori automobilistici esausti, WCat) e dei loro prezzi unitari relativamente bassi rispetto ad altri PGM e REE. Inoltre, i Pt-WCat contengono grandi quantità di Rh, un'altra materia prima critica il cui recupero è fondamentale per sostenere la redditività del processo.
