Discoveries Without Boundaries (DWB) is an innovative initiative at the University of Ottawa, created to challenge undergraduate science students to expand the limits of research, collaboration, and innovation. DWB provides a dynamic platform where students engage in competitive, research-driven challenges, aimed at solving real-world scientific problems. Through interdisciplinary teamwork, DWB fosters creativity and groundbreaking solutions, empowering participants to venture beyond the conventional boundaries of science. Our mission is to empower science students with opportunities to showcase their skills through exciting competitions, project development, and professional presentations. Each year, DWB organizes an annual competition focused on a central theme—such as environmental sustainability, technological advancement, or healthcare innovation—where teams are tasked with developing innovative projects. The best teams present their work to a panel of experts, including professors and industry leaders, gaining invaluable experience in public speaking, critical thinking, and scientific research. In addition to the competition, DWB offers mentorship programs and workshops to help participants develop essential skills such as research methodologies, scientific writing, and collaborative problem-solving. High-performing teams also have the chance to publish their findings in undergraduate research journals or secure internships and research opportunities.
