We have a state of the art machining department, providing machined timber to a wide range of mouldings including, skirting, architrave, dado rail, flooring, window cills, beadings and much more all machined to bespoke patterns of your choice. We also offer a pattern matching service to reproduce any existing mouldings you may already have.
Beginnings
Mr Burton started business in Liverpool, as a sole trader, in 1921 under the name of E O Burton & Co Ltd, specialising in supplying the ship and boat building trade with Mahogany, Iroko and Teak logs. The trading continued until 1939 when he was called up for war service and the business closed for the duration of the second world war.
Mr Edgar Burton started up again in 1945 and took into partnership Mr Albert Godwin, offices were opened in Liverpool and London, In 1955 the company became a limited liability company.
During 1959 the premises were obtained in the Brentwood area, a log mill and gantry crane erected and the conversion of logs from all over the world commenced. In 1965 Mr Burton died and the company was brought by Mr A Godwin. A subsidiary Essex Moulding Co was formed in 1969, to supply machined timber. The mill was entirely modernized and production commenced in all types of prepared timber. Machined timbers remain high on the priority as 70-80 % of the company’s turnover is prepared in one form or another.
During 1990 a sister company E O Burton (East Anglia) Ltd was formed by Mr Geoffrey Godwin to cover East Anglia, selling the same product range as Brentwood, and having their own machining facilities.
Today we carry a wider range of timbers from various parts of the world, North America, South America, Africa, Europe and the Far East.
