Why Each Other? ‘Othering’ is a social phenomenon where certain groups or individuals are marginalised and distinguished as fundamentally different or inferior to the dominant group. This process often involves stereotyping, discrimination, and exclusion based on characteristics such as race, gender, religion, or socioeconomic status. In the context of inclusion in the workplace, ‘othering’ undermines our efforts to create equitable and diverse working environments by perpetuating divisions and reinforcing power imbalances. Addressing ‘othering’ is crucial for fostering a culture of belonging, where all individuals are valued and respected for their unique contributions and identities.
