Earth BioGenome Project

Launched in 2018, the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP) is a moonshot initiative for biology that aims to sequence, catalog, and characterize the genomes of all of Earth’s eukaryotic biodiversity over a period of 10 years. Sequencing life will revolutionize our understanding of biology and evolution, conserve, protect and restore biodiversity, and create new benefits for human welfare and society. With advances in modern technology it is finally possible to efficiently sequence the genomes of all 1.5 million known species of animals, plants, protozoan, and fungi, and to use genomics to help discover the remaining species that are currently hidden from science. With support from world renowned research institutions, leading universities, and private foundations, EBP is committed to sequencing life for the future of life.
