Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Established in 1935, the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND) has a proven record of accomplishment in providing evidenced-based and innovative nutrition care to the residents of Florida. FAND is the state’s largest association of dietetic and nutrition professionals who are in the forefront of health and nutrition information and education. Our 3,000 plus members touch the lives of all residents and citizens across the State of Florida. The mission of the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND) is to empower our members to promote optimal nutrition and health for all Floridians. As an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, together, we are the voice for better food, nutrition and health policies. Research forms the foundation of the profession and provides the basis for practice, education and policy. All research priorities of the Academy are grounded in the core sciences of food, nutrition, social or business as well as chemistry, biology, psychology and mathematics. Interactions among these sciences impact the achievement and maintenance of optimal nutrition status for individuals and population groups. Support for nutrition is not only good public policy, it is good politics. Members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics have the ability and responsibility to urge consumers and lawmakers to learn about the positive role nutrition plays in healthy lifestyles. Nutrition also plays an effective role in disease management and treatment. For both individuals and society, the benefits of eating right and exercising include improved qualities of life and lower health-care costs. Registered/licensed Dietitian/Nutritionists are the recognized nutrition experts. In order to empower our members, FAND sponsors dynamic education programs, publishes a highly-respected Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy, and advocates for public policy to promote safe nutrition practices.
