About Education and Capacity Building for Open Science Hardware in Sub-Saharan African Universities

ECB4OSH aims to educate Sub-Saharan African students on open science and hardware, highlighting their benefits to the scientific community in Africa. The project will conduct in-person, hands-on scientific workshops, fostering practical skills in students and empowering them to develop and utilize open scientific instruments like the OpenFlexure Microscope. Additionally, all scientific instruments developed during the course of this project will be donated to local schools, makerspaces, and labs in need of scientific tools for educational and research purposes. The project also envisions establishing open microscopy communities in each Sub-Saharan African country, starting with Ghana. This project has been made possible in part by a grant from the Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) Open Infrastructure Fund.
