ECCO Ocean is a private and individual initiative led by a marine biologist with experience in cetaceans. ECCO Ocean runs on a strategy where its marine research is self-financed through ecotourism.
Our guidelines are based on the following objectives: Studying the marine environment and the megafauna communities of the Portuguese coast; Be a self-sufficient entity, financing research through ecotourism revenue; Present the wealth of central Portugal's coast to the public, taking the opportunity to educate and raise environmental awareness; Promote the development of sustainable and efficient techniques of exploitation of the marine environment.
We conciliate various fields of science, such as biology, chemistry and physics to improve marine exploration techniques and better understand of the marine environment. These mainly consist of developing an innovative, efficient and sustainable vessel. This is a diverse and inter and multidisciplinary initiative in which all activities are always somehow connected to the sea.
