ECO2 Magnesia produces the world's first green magnesium oxide by decontaminating and giving new value to abandoned mine tailings from the Carey Mine, in Quebec, Canada. The ECO2 process is simple and innovative. By using only mine tailings, water and CO2 (which is captured and recycled in a closed loop), ECO2 keeps its carbon footprint to a bare minimum. Ultimately, ECO2 Magnesia will decontaminate 480,000 tonnes of mine tailings per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 160,000 tonnes a year. With the ECO2 project, Quebec will become a leader in the production of green MgO, a leader in the decontamination of mine tailings, a leader in CO2 reduction and a leader in regional development.
