EcoBasket calculates a Carbon Emission Score to indicate the impact your food choices are having on the environment. The intention of this is to encourage our users to make more environmentally conscious shopping decisions to reduce their carbon footprint by suggesting alternative products with a lower carbon footprint. By encouraging consumers to consider their carbon emissions every time they buy food, we can help to reduce one of the largest contributors to carbon emissions; food and drink. People have other concerns which dominate their lives right now, whilst climate change is an issue that is abstract and in the future to many. We will make it seamless and easy for them to use by collecting data and presenting it in a digestible manner for tracking products and suggesting changes. Supermarkets will find this calculated score valuable to engage consumers and increase the chance of them making a purchase.
