The idea for this system was born during my master's thesis, where I analyzed the similarities between inverter AC and air-water heat pumps. Realizing that both systems operate on nearly identical thermodynamic principles, a question naturally arose: can a standard inverter AC be adapted to function effectively as air-water heat pump?
The answer turned out to be yes. By precisely adjusting system parameters—without altering the volume displaced by the refrigerant during the cycle—I developed a complete solution that allows an inverter AC to perform as a fully functional air-to-water heat pump.
This innovative technology works by redirecting the R32 refrigerant from the indoor unit of the AC a custom-designed device, where the heat is efficiently transferred from the refrigerant to water. The heated water is then circulated through radiators, providing consistent and energy-efficient space heating. During the summer months, the same system can also be used for cooling, making it a year-round thermal comfort solution with significant energy savings.
By combining this device with the outdoor unit of a standard inverter AC, the result is a compact and cost-effective heating and cooling system that rivals traditional air-water heat pumps in performance—but at a much lower investment.
One of the key advantages is its compact and modular design, allowing for easy installation even in apartments and buildings where conventional heat pumps are impractical. Instead of complex installations, the system uses a standard outdoor AC unit paired with a small (20x20 cm) indoor module.
The goal from the start was to create a solution that is affordable, efficient, and easy to install—especially in urban environments where space and budget are often limited.
What started as academic research has evolved into a tangible product that bridges theory and practice, bringing innovation and added value to the HVAC industry.
