Edirisa UK is a registered charity No 1112743 working in South West Uganda to improve the living conditions of the Ugandan people, focusing on education, health and sanitation, clean water and sustainable enterprise. We have refurbished several primary schools and have also built - and now run - a number of nursery schools with more scheduled. We place great importance on special needs education, severely neglected in Uganda, and are heavily involved with the Special Needs Education Centre in Kitanga. We are building a clinic at Bufuka where international doctors will work alongside Ugandans to help to combat simple but life threatening diseases. We support sustainable projects for local communities, such as craft making, and have initiated bee keeping programmes to produce honey and beeswax products. Volunteers come to our projects and we currently have three locations where we operate the Teach Inn concept - volunteers pay a small contribution for their accommodation which goes into the projects community fund which pays the location managers salary, building maintenance and profits go into other local projects. Each location has a small garden with produce being sold locally. Edirisa is a society for promoting Africa, creativity, cultures and practical skills and we run creative programmes, teacher training, swimming lessons and much more - working in cooperation and partnership with the local communities where we operate.
