EFGRO’s vision is a future in which airports operate with a net zero carbon emissions. EFGRO believes in role that airports and ground handling companies can have as enablers for decarbonisation of the aviation sector. For this, the sector needs a switch to new and sustainable technologies. EFGRO’s long term goal is to develop the next generation of ground vehicles that will tackle one of the biggest issues in airport ground operations - sustainable taxiing. Autonomous Smart Tug (AST) is a fully electric and autonomous vehicle that is able to perform pushback and taxiing of the aircraft, while at the same time providing the aircraft with the required power for its on-board systems. AST will come with a modular design and several features that differentiate it from the rest of the market. Two major sub-systems include a quick battery swap, enabled by a custom-built charging station and an onboard GPU robot arm. EFGRO’s short term goal is to prove the feasibility of the two smart sub-systems by applying them to existing solutions in aviation or automotive industry.
