We develop methods that will allow:
*to preserve whole human brains in a way that conserves the ultrastructure of cells and their connections, essentially forever;
*to analyze the 3-dimensional structure and molecular composition of the cells in human brains with nanometer resolution;
*to understand how these cells connect, store, and process information.
Our research spans neuroscience, computer science, philosophy (bioethics), and social science. In our social science research, we query relevant stakeholders (including neuroscientists and medical doctors). We would like to identify the barriers to research on how the human brain works and how disease (mostly neurological disease, often associated with aging) affects the structure of the brain.
We collaborate with public and private scientific institutions in Europe and the United States and welcome new collaborations and ideas on how to attract more interest in and funding for our work.
