Elborne Mitchell was founded in 1968 providing advice primarily to the insurance and shipping industries. Since the 1960s, Elborne Mitchell has played a key role in many cases which have made headlines within the insurance industry and beyond. These include asbestosis and computer leasing litigation in the late 1970s and early 1980s; the mysterious loss of the MV Derbyshire in the South China seas; sanctions-busting operations in South Africa and the uncovering of the largest ever maritime fraud with the sinking of the MV Salem; the tide of litigation which engulfed Lloyd's in the late 1980s and led to Lloyd's Reconstruction & Renewal Plan in 1996; the invasion of Kuwait in August 1990 and the theft by Saddam Hussein of most of the Kuwait Airways fleet; and the LMX spiral of personal accident and workers' compensation claims. We have continued to build on this long established and successful record.
