eleCREW

eleCREW has a vision of an Africa in which elephants and humans co-exist in a balanced environment. We aim to achieve this through our CREW methodology, this stands for Community; Research; Education; & Welfare. We care for 9 elephants, our ambassador herd, on a 3000 ha wildlife reserve in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The ongoing welfare of these 9 elephants is our primary objective and we actively work with partner organisations to monitor, evaluate and improve this. Ensuring the best quality of life possible for the ambassador herd and utilising our humane 'Cooperative Teaching' methods we are in a unique position to impact our vision. Our community programs target towns, villages and rural communities in the Matableland North province of Zimbabwe who live side by side with elephants, promoting coexistence. The research programs give access to a unique situation to study all disciplines that involve understanding elephants and how we can improve their welfare and conservation. We also run a unique immersive education program called 'Through The Eyes Of An Elephant'. This we subsidise school and community groups in our target population to benefit from. It is designed to a) change perceptions to be more positive and acknowledge elephants as sentient beings; b) increase knowledge uptake about all aspect of elephants from mental capacities to physiology; & c) encourage uptake of humane methods to mitigate the negative impacts of living next to elephants. This program is both informative and entertaining and is open to paying tourists who can have an up-close experience with the world's largest land mammal, understand the world through their eyes and know that their donations are going back to a genuine cuase to benefit the welfare and conservation of these iconic animals.
