ELNOR

ELNOR is an edtech startup that provides English learning materials and personalized tutoring to adults living in refugee camps. People in camps are amongst the most disadvantaged in the world, and while their immediate needs of food, shelter, and safety are the focus of international entities and governments, education welfare remains overlooked as a necessity. We believe that language learning allows for self-expression for those who are seeking relief and brings professional and social opportunities when establishing a new life. ELNOR has begun a pilot program with a group of adults in Europe’s largest refugee camp, Moria, which after the fire in September 2020 has been relocated to other areas of the Greek island of Lesbos. Many people living in refugee camps have very limited access to formal modes of education, and the COVID-19 disruptions put them at a greater disadvantage as it disconnected them from in-person volunteer tutors while they have limited access to internet and electronic devices to participate in virtual learning programs. Adapting the technology to fit the needs and wifi connectivity of our students, we have been innovating ways that we can connect with them and expand our services to reach more people within Moria and beyond.
