We are a non-profit organization that aims to provide academic support for children & youth during their medical treatments. EmpowerED Collective recognizes the burden children and youth go through when they are undergoing medical treatments. Children/youth who require intensive medical care miss days to weeks of school during hospitalization. 2 in 3 children missed school during the six months after discharge– with absences averaging two weeks but sometimes even longer, according to the findings in JAMA Network Open.
In addition, missing school puts children at risk of poorer academic achievements later in life and falling behind when returning to school. With lowered self-esteem and enthusiasm for continuing academics later after medical treatment. Families may also be at increased risk of economic hardship during their children's/youths' treatments.
Further, Illness/diseases can range from asthma, ADHD, autism, type 1 diabetes, cancer and even more.
EEC wants to commit and put in the steps and efforts to reduce barriers to education for this community.
We want to improve outcomes for children/youth and their families despite the circumstances they are going through.
