EMPOWER2.0 is an EU Interreg North Sea Region funded project with 14 partners in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and the United Kingdom. The consortium is led by Zaanstad (NL) and consists of governments, knowledge institutions and seven living labs. As the main beneficiary, Zaanstad is responsible for the overall coordination, supervision and management of the project.
The purpose of EMPOWER2.0 is to increase (transnational knowledge about) local ownership of energy generation. The project aims to demonstrate and accelerate the empowerment of citizens to become active energy citizens - and to create local energy communities via existing civil society structures - through development of new propositions and the adoption of new, emerging and existing solutions for energy ownership. This will lead to an increase of energy awareness and renewable energy production, and hence reduce the environmental footprint in the North Sea Region.
