About Empowering API
Empowering API is an undocu-led, people-powered in transformative solidarity to empower undocumented Asian and Pacific-Islander (API) communities, families, and workers to proclaim their stories and assert their rights. EAPI is collectively engaged to advance new & true pro-migrant narratives, reclaim immigrants' political identities as migrants, and realize our visions of just, fair, and equitable systemic changes that recognize, value, accept, and respect all immigrants in law, society, and economy. We are committed to eradicating white supremacy, which we recognize as the root cause of negative socializations, racializations, and politicizations of immigration. In our movement, we knowingly, intentionally, and deliberately forge solidarity across race, gender, faith, and nationality while recognizing and valuing the diversity within and across these categories as a fundamental building block of an inclusive and equitable society. Out of love, compassion, care, & joy, we celebrate our distinct yet interconnected aspects of identity in solidarity with people of multiple identities, which creates uniquely experienced, differentially intersectional, socioeconomic hierarchies & inequalities. While taking the best risks we can, we act to upend oppressive structures through strategic, tangible acts of positive justice. We name our actions as an exploited and marginalized group in solidarity, resistance, and unity with the California Youth Movement and Labor Movement. As full participants acting in solidarity, we acknowledge that our liberation is intricately bound with the liberation of others. Core Values: • Compassion: unconditional empathy to better serve our community • Equity: abolishing systemic barriers to create opportunities • Solidarity: fostering relationships to combat all forms of oppression • Sustainability: consistent community care to sustain our vision Sponsored by the UCLA Labor Center and Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, AFL-CIO (APALA).
