Empty Toy Box Education

Founded in 2018, Empty Toy Box Education has been working with the help of volunteers to develop the skills of practitioners working in rural pre-schools (ECD - Early Childhood Development) in South Africa. Our work is dedicated to raising the standards of intervention in the formative years through delivering practical sessions focusing on 'Learning through play' and using recycled materials to make resources for learning experiences. Empty Toy Box Education is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to empowering ECD practitioners from socio-economically disadvantaged areas to deliver 'Learning through Play' by using recycling to create toys, games and materials that engage young children and stimulate their learning experiences to ensure life long learning. We believe that all children deserve a positive Early Childhood experience that is not linked to their socio-economic background. It is our aim to develop the people that work with these children. We deliver the project in an interactive manner. Attendees are encouraged to participate in the games and activities during a session. We encourage the participants to develop an ethos of learning through play, creating a positive learning environment, and use recycled materials to develop learning materials that stimulate development for all areas of learning as well as higher order thinking and critical thinking skills. OUR MISSION: Empty Toy Box Education was set up to enrich the lives of young children by empowering adults to deliver learning through play using recycled materials to make engaging games and resources for teaching and learning.
