OUR MISSION:
The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona leads the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona, a statewide organization, is dedicated to the welfare of people with epilepsy. The goals are the prevention and cure of seizures and the promotion of independence and optimal quality of life for people who have epilepsy. The Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona is a charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.
Services provided to the community include (i) information and education on living successfully with epilepsy (ii) professional and lay seminars (iii) summer camp for children with epilepsy (iv) outreach to populations at risk of developing epilepsy including Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, Seniors, African-Americans, Native Americans and Latino communities (v) continuing education training in seizure recognition, treatment, and response.
More than 77,000 men, women and children living in Arizona have been diagnosed with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder that affects people of all ages. Onset occurs most often in childhood and older adulthood, but can happen to anyone at any time. It is estimated that 150,000 new cases are diagnosed each year and that 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy at some point in their lives. Epilepsy is a spectrum of disorders with a range of severity, different seizures types, coexisting conditions and varying impacts on people with epilepsy. Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder in the United States after migraine, stroke and Alzheimer’s disease.
