Engage4Life was founded on the belief that all young people, regardless of background, can be engaged with and inspired to realise their potential, define their own future and build a stronger society. The National Citizen Service is our main delivery project, and as an organisation E4L has found a perfect fit of culture with the fledgling programme. We believe in the power of NCS, which is set to become the largest youth movement in British history, to transform the lives of the young people who take part and create a generation who believe in themselves and understand their collective strength to enact positive change in the lives of those around them, making up their communities. NCS is an ever evolving concept, each programme is better than the previous as staff gain experience and grow into their roles. This is seeing the programme transist into a movement. By this we mean NCS participants who become graduates, who return as volunteers and team leaders on future programmes. These young people have developed and shaped our approach to each programme and embody the values and culture of NCS, and Engage4Life. This allows the programme to grow significantly whilst remaining true to its core values. In 2014, 35% of our staff were NCS graduates, all under the age of 20. They led by example and created a NCS, youth focussed environment on all of our programmes. This showed that when effectively supported and given a chance young people of the current generation have the potential to eclipse expectations and achieve great things. At E4L we are all extremely proud of our first 3 years and all of the great times, and thousands of young people we’ve shared them with. We look forward to the challenges ahead and the exciting opportunity to empower and inspire over 50,000 young people over the next 3 years.
