About Engineers Without Borders – Ethiopia (EWBE)
Engineers Without Borders – Ethiopia (EWBE) is a startup chapter of the global Engineers Without Borders movement, committed to empowering underserved communities across Ethiopia through sustainable, community-driven engineering solutions. Founded by a multidisciplinary team of professionals with extensive experience in humanitarian engineering, public health, and development, EWBE focuses on delivering practical, ethical, and inclusive solutions that respond to local needs and priorities. EWBE’s core mission is to mobilize engineering expertise to address key development challenges such as access to clean water, sanitation, renewable energy, and resilient infrastructure—while fostering innovation, building local capacity, and ensuring long-term impact. Guided by principles of community-centered design, sustainability, inclusivity, and collaboration, EWBE works closely with communities, government bodies, NGOs, and academic institutions to co-create solutions that are locally appropriate and environmentally responsible. Our strategic focus areas include Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH); Renewable Energy and Climate Resilience; Shelter and Infrastructure Development; Engineering Education and Mentorship; and Community Engagement and Capacity Building. By aligning with Ethiopia’s national development goals and the global EWB 2030 Strategy, EWBE aims to become a leading force for ethical engineering and inclusive development in the region. EWBE invites engineers, students, donors, and partners to join this transformative journey—building a more resilient and equitable Ethiopia, one project at a time.
