The Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Auckland, offers undergraduate specialisations in Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering, alongside several postgraduate options. Engineering Science is a discipline focusing on using advanced mathematics, computation and data to model, design and optimise solutions to real world problems. This specialisation may suit you if you enjoy using mathematics and computers to solve practical problems. You will learn how to use mathematics, programming, optimisation methods, statistics, machine learning and data science to create solutions in diverse fields including sustainable energy and resource management, artificial intelligence for engineering design, advanced engineering consulting, computational mechanics applications and finance. Biomedical Engineering combines engineering, biology and medicine to understand our complex bodies, develop technology to treat diseases and grow NZ's MedTech industry. This specialisation may suit you if you enjoy physics and mathematics, and are interested in solving problems in health and biology. You will learn to use mathematics, physiology, mechatronics, design and signal processing, to design new devices and analyse biological systems to improve health outcomes.
