Furniture design is a modern art form representing substantial investment, however the furniture caster has eluded similar scrutiny to date. Utility, construction and economy are familiar constraints cited for this. In fact, the average caster on today's premium office chairs, consisting of plastic discs pressed onto a thin metal axle (6 components total), costs less than twenty cents each to produce.
