Environment Defense Network (EDN)

The Environment Defense Network (EDN) is a youth-led organization established in 2019 with the primary objective of identifying the core issues related to climate change and developing effective adaptive and mitigation strategies. The organization utilizes a participatory approach that involves conducting research, advocacy, awareness campaigns, and engaging stakeholders from the grassroots community to policymakers. However, insufficient knowledge and awareness, coupled with a lack of skill development activities, have delayed the progress of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Bangladesh. EDN believes that a comprehensive understanding of climate change processes, its sectorial impacts, and innovation of new technologies are vital in addressing this global challenge. To achieve this goal, EDN aims to engage civil society, public sectors, and businesses to tackle the issue of climate change. Currently, the youth population constitutes approximately 20% of the total population of 161 million in Bangladesh. Therefore, EDN works with the youth community to lead and solve existing and future socio-economic and environmental problems, ensuring a sustainable earth for all. Advisory board EDN has been working with youth led organizations of different universities, activists and NGOs who are also visioning to aware and skill up youth people for achieving sustainable development goals. In this vein, it develops its activity plan guided by renowned national scholars, activists and experts in the sustainability field like Prof. Dr. Gulshan Ara Latifa, renowned Zoologist, University of Dhaka and Prof. Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, renowned air pollution expert, Stamford University Bangladesh. Mission The working area of EDN covers climate change, disaster, Agriculture, Water, Forest, Environment & Sustainable development with focusing, (i) Youth Networking, (ii) Climate Change research & Policy Advocacy, (iii) Public Awareness Building etc.
