Hellenic Group for the Study of IBD

EOMIFNE - Hellenic Group for the study of IBD -was established at 2001, by the initiative of D. G. Karamanolis. The first seminar with the exclusive theme of idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases was organized in 1994, by the Gastroenterology Department of the Tzaneio Hospital of Piraeus (Director: D.G. Karamanolis) and the 2nd Pathology Clinic of the University of Athens (Director: S. Hatzigiannis). The seminars were repeated in 1995 and 1996. The years 1997-2001 seminars were organized with the cooperation of the Gastroenterology Departments of Tzaneio Hospital, the Thessaloniki Hospital "Papanikolou" (Director: G. Kitis) and the University Hospital of Ioannina (Director: E.V. Tsianos). In 2002, the Founding Conference of EOMIFNE was organized in Thessaloniki and since then the annual Panhellenic conference of the Group has been held with great success. Shortly after its foundation (2003), EOMIFNE joined ECCO (European Crohn's & Colitis Organization), with many of its members attending and participating in the Organization's Annual Conference. In addition, EOMIFNE is also represented in IOIBD (International Organization for the study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease) with Mr. Ioannis Koutrombakis and Gerasimos Mantzari as active members.
