The Society for Family Health (SFH) is currently carrying out a project called e-pharmacy for family planning (eP4FP) in Lagos State, Nigeria. This project is expected to last for four years & it has the objective of improving & expanding the access to high-quality family planning (FP) products, information/counselling, & services for Nigerian women.
The project also aims to explore how the use of online & offline platforms can facilitate the adoption and continuation of FP methods by the target population. The eP4FP project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation & it involves the collaboration of four partner organizations that have specific yet complementary expertise in the field of FP.
These organizations are: the Society for Family Health (SFH), which is a leading non-governmental organization that works to improve the health & well-being of Nigerians; Busara Center for Behavioral Economics, which is a research & advisory organization that applies behavioral science to solve social & economic challenges; Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Foundation (PSNF), which is a professional body that promotes the practice and development of pharmacy in Nigeria; and HealthPlus, which is a leading pharmacy chain that provides quality healthcare products & services across Nigeria.
The eP4FP project leverages on the existing outlets & online platform of HealthPlus in Lagos State, which is the most populous state in Nigeria, to reach out to women of reproductive age who are potential or current users of FP methods.
The project is introducing & testing innovative techniques that use digital technology to enhance the delivery of FP information, products, and services through a hybrid model that combines online & offline pharmacy channels.
We hope to increase awareness, knowledge, availability, affordability, & acceptability of FP among Nigerian women, as well as to generate evidence on the effectiveness and scalability of the eP4FP model.
