Epi Squared is developing a novel system to eliminate battery replacement surgeries for implantable medical devices by providing safe, reliable, and programmable wireless power. The first product will be a device used to reduce the severity of epileptic seizures. The replacement battery procedure is prohibitively expensive and not covered by Medicare/Medicaid. This is especially an issue for patients with epilepsy since many are reliant on this form of reimbursement. Furthermore, the physical and financial pain of having to go through these replacement surgeries is inhibiting the potential of a growing therapy that can change how these patients live their daily lives.
