ERA-Net NEURON is a collaborative network uniting 35 research funding organizations and ministries from 28 countries to advance neuroscience research. Funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme, NEURON supports basic, clinical, and translational research addressing the complexities of the brain and its diseases.
The brain is the most intricate organ in the human body. It drives our humanity, thinking, decisions, and motor activity. Despite significant advancements in neuroscience, many aspects of brain functioning and dysfunction remain unclear. Neurological and mental disorders are among the leading causes of mortality and disability worldwide, posing immense societal and economic burdens that will only grow with aging populations.
ERA-Net NEURON aims to tackle these challenges by fostering international collaboration, innovation, and joint funding schemes. By bringing together researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, NEURON supports cutting-edge projects that seek to improve our understanding of brain function and develop new strategies for preventing, diagnosing, and treating brain-related diseases.
