The Emergency and Risk Communication Message Testing Lab conducts research on alerts and warnings across all hazards.
Our alert, warning, and risk communication studies include: earthquake, wildfire, extreme heat, winter weather, hurricane, missing and endangered persons, and a host of other hazardous events.
We use mixed methods including interviews and focus groups, card sorting, eye tracking, surveys, and experiments. Our studies are theoretically grounded and methodologically rigorous.
We receive funding from FEMA, NOAA, USGS, and state and local organizations.
Our research team includes experts in communication, psychology, and sociology, as well as atmospheric science. Our collaborating partners include experts in public health, law enforcement and missing persons.
