In 2007, the Government of Mongolia established Erdenes Mongol LLC as Mongolia’s principal state-owned enterprise with the goal of creating value and benefits by integrating Mongolia's strategically important mineral deposits into the national economy. Subsequently, a decision was made to assign Erdenes Mongol LLC the authority and responsibility to manage state-owned mining companies under the principle of consolidation, ensuring that subsidiaries operate within a unified leadership and organizational structure. Erdenes Mongol Group serves as the holding company for 31 different legal entities organized into three groups: Copper & Metals, Fuel & Energy, and Infrastructure & Logistics. As the largest player in the mining industry, Erdenes Mongol Group is involved in the exploration, mining, beneficiation, and refining of gold, silver, copper, coal, and other minerals. As of 2024, Erdenes Mongol Group holds 26% of the country’s registered coal reserves, 18% of copper reserves, 22% of fluorspar reserves, and 15% of iron ore reserves, accounting for approximately 30% of the country’s total export revenue.
